EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) is a type of memory chip that retains its data when its power supply is switched off.
In most EPROMs you can see the chip through a small quartz crystal (not glass) circle window. This window exposes the chip so that it can be reprogrammed after the content of the chip is erased by UV light.
