EEPROMs

EEPROMs (Electrically Erasable Programmable ROM) offer users excellent capabilities and performance. EEPROMs only need an external power supply because the high voltage needed for programming and erasing programs is internally generated. Also their write and erase operations are performed on a byte per byte basis.

EEPROMs in comparison to EPROMs need fewer elements in the memory cell design. The elements that make up these memory cells are capacitors and transistors.
